The study aimed to determine various factors including personal, work motivation, and a working environment which affects the organizational commitment and the level of employees’ engagement with the organization. A total of 39 respondents from the Faculty of Business Administration, Savannakhet University, Naxeng Campus, Lao PDR have participated in this research survey. Data collected were done via google survey and were analyzed descriptively. A regression analysis was conducted using a statistical software. Results showed that the factors affecting organizational commitment were rated good in almost all aspects. Its standard deviation is small implying a reliable opinion. The regression analysis result revealed that motivation and workplace environmental factors are significantly affecting organizational commitment. However, the hygiene factor was found not to be significant. This implies that an organization has to improve on its motivational as well as workplace environment factors so as to enhance the organizational commitment of the employees.

EXPLORATION OF CONCEPTUAL PERSPECTIVES OF HUMAN RESOURCE RETENTION IN HOSPITALITY INSTITUTIONS

Authors: RHEET RIJAL

Abstracts: Human Resources [HR] is the vital capital of an organization. And naturally, it requires continuous investment for capacity enhancement, fulfillment of expectations, and continued retention in the organization. It is more important to retain HR in hospitality institutions as it requires a lot of time, effort, and cost to empower them with technical and human skills competence matching with the nature of service requirement of this special segment of the economy. In this context, the present paper has been crafted on suitable conceptual and theoretical ground to establish relevant pragmatic approaches to promote the retention of HR in the hospitality industry. The primary aim of this work is to explore the underpinning conceptual and theoretical perspectives and pragmatic approaches to staff retention replicable to hospitality institutions. More specifically, the paper examines the retention theories, observes applicable and practiced models with an emphasis on human resource retention in hospitality institutions, and determines the most suitable approaches to HR retention in the light of unique hospitality. Since this study is fully thematic desk research-based, the present scribe has used exploratory research by comprehending the conceptual, theoretical perspectives, standards, and relevant models of staff retention which was assessed through the various secondary sources. The established conceptual perspectives and institutional practices of motivation and retention models can be a benchmark for organizational success and thrive. The suggestions drawn from each theory and model positions staff as a valuable asset that needs to be continuously motivated with the needful intervention of strategies and solutions that best suits them. Many organizations are exploring different concepts and theories, strategies, and established models that explain the application towards better employee retention to gain a competitive advantage. Future research should emphasize the creation and promotion of a sound working environment, better communication, and the rest of human development and motivation-related matters with an aim to retain the trained and matured workforce. Similarly, the culture of inquiry in this respective field of study should be initiated to explore more relevant system approaches to staff recruitment and selection process, empowerment with ownership, and creation of their self-respect and dignity while being the member of an organization so that they would not dare to quit the organization. Of course, any study focused on the long-term cost and benefits of effective staff retention would serve work for both academia and industry. Staff is a prerequisite for the effective management of an organization. They must be empowered and motivated with the right use of resources, strategies, and practiced models of retention. Effective application of the existing theories in the workplace drive HR practitioners to grasp the exact scenarios that could result in desired outcomes leading with positive impacts for staff, organization, society, and hence to the nation.

STRATEGY AND CONTROL OF HYDROTREATING PROCESS IN DISTILLATION COLUMNS

Authors: SALMA.E. ABDALKREEM, TAYSEIR.M. AHMED, GURASHI.A GASMELSEED

Abstracts: The stability of control systems was determined using methods of Routh-Hurwitz, Direct substitution, Root –locus and Bode diagram. Ziegler- Nichols tuning were Implemented to generate the proportional, proportional integrated and proportional integrated derivative controllers’ gains, integral, derivative and times. Finally, applying software program to simulate and select the controller of minimum overshot values. To achieve these goals, Pseudo binary system is conducted and the feed is considered as a binary mixture by using two components light keys (Lk) and heavy keys(Hk). McCabe Thiele method is used to calculate the number of theoretical stages. A distillation column model diagram with six loops was constructed to control the column. Three loops for top products (distillate), two loops for bottom products and one loop for feed rate. In this research the control strategy was made for loop No.4 to control the flow of steam to the reboiler. Transfer functions of all components were cited from the literature. MATLAB is used for plotting root loci and Bode diagrams from which all stability margins are obtained. MATLAB also was used to draw the time response curve from which all values of overshot, settling time, decay ratio and rise time were provided. The controller that gave the minimum overshoot was selected and implemented to the relevant control loops

COMPARISM OF GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF LOCAL, HYBRID AND EXOTIC CHICKENS ON DIFFERENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AT NJALA UNIVERSITY SIERRA LEONE WEST AFRICA

Authors: SANPHA KALLON, ABDUL RAHMAN SESAY, SAIDU KANU, FODAY .Y. KOROMA

Abstracts: This research was conducted using local breed of chickens, exotic breed (Bovan gold line) and hybrid. These breeds reared under traditional and modern husbandry systems. The research focused on attributes such as mortality, weight gain and feed conversion efficiency. The result of the experiment revealed that in the first week of free range management, the hybrid cross out-performed (930.10g) the exotic breed (900.10g) in weight gain. However, on the 20th day under the caged management system, the Exotic out-performed the Hybrid cross with weight gains of 2190g (Exotic) and 1955g (Hybrid), and under the deep Litter system of management with weight gains of 2155g (Exotic) and 1950g (Hybrid), respectively. During the first week of management under the caged management system the FCR of the local breed (1.93) was better than that of Exotic breed (2.0) and the hybrid cross (2.29). However, at the end of the third week, the FCR of the Exotic (4.8) was far better than the Local breed (6.83) and the hybrid Cross (5.24). Under the deep Litter system of management, the FCR of the Exotic Breed (4.87) at the end of the experiment was better than that of Hybrid cross (5.39) and Local breed (6.89). The higher the FCR the poorer the performance of the birds. The mortality for the Exotic breed under the free range management system was 48% compared with 16% for Local breeds except in the deep litter management where a similar (4%) mortality rate was experienced for each breed. It was therefore concluded that a hybrid F1 (Local x Bovan Gold line) was developed with promising performance characteristics with respect to improve weight gain as demonstrated by improved FCR and mortality especially under the caged and deep litter systems of management.
