A TRACER STUDY ON THE EMPLOYABILITY OF BACHELOR IN AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY GRADUATES (2011-2020) OF EASTERN VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY BURAUEN CAMPUS

Abstracts: This paper mainly determined the employability of the graduates of Bachelor in Agricultural Technology of Eastern Visayas State University Burauen Campus from 2011-2020. The goal of this study was to track the performance of agricultural technology graduates in order to improve the curriculum. Specifically, it seek out to determine the employment profile of the graduates, competency or skills provided and the rate of the BAT program. The descriptive research design was used in this tracer study. The vast majority of graduates found work in government organizations as service worker and agricultural technician. Most of them their job not related to their graduated program with more than a year of work search and employed within the locality. Majority were contractual with a monthly income of below Ƥ 10,000.00 and got a job through their friends’ recommendations. The competencies provided in college were high in particular to core value formation skills and human relation skills. On the hand, oral and written communication skills were perceived the least competency skills gained of graduates. The rate of the program rated as high. Teacher-student relationship most rated of the graduates while relevance to the position and relevance to the program to your professional requirements rated the least. Similar tracer studies on the employability of graduates should be conducted in the future with additional variables to be tested.

LIFE TRANSFORMATION THROUGH GLOBAL TREE NUTS: A CASE OF MACADAMIA NUTS PRODUCING FARMERS IN ZIMBABWE.

Abstracts: Macadamia nuts were an important commodity among the Aborigines society in Australia where they originated. The nuts found use in medicine, food, cosmetics and gifts at feasting inter-tribal ceremonies. Due to their impact on the lives of the ordinary men, the macadamias were then commercialized around 1930s in Hawaii. While Zimbabwe now boost of vast orchards of macadamias after their introduction in 1965, their contribution to the life of the ordinary Zimbabwean farmer is not known. As a result, this paper sort to empirically, investigate the impact of macadamia nuts farming on the lives of farmers in Zimbabwe so that the government and individuals who intend to consider growing the crop make an informed decision. Data set captured from 128 macadamia farmers through a questionnaire was used in the study. Proceeds realized from macadamia nut orchards have enabled the majority of farmers to prepare a better future for their children, adequately provide food for the family, build decent homes, afford to pay family policies, plough back in the orchards through infrastructure development and reinvest in other income generating projects. This study concludes that macadamia nuts farming is very sustainable and has proved to be a game changer in the lives of the ordinary farmers in Zimbabwe. The study thus recommend government to improve its support for the sector and to encourage farmers to invest money realized from macadamia nuts in order to have a fallback position.

DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS OF SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS

Providing quality education among Filipino learners is a constitutional mandate of the Department of Education. The quality of teachers is one of the key indicators which is given focused by the department through its program SULUNG EDUKALIDAD. One of the key components is re-skilling and upskilling of teachers through continuous professional development program. Quality education demands quality teachers. Teachers’ academic qualifications, skills and competence in the delivery of content and their dedication to the teaching profession have a considerable impact on the teaching and learning process. The main thrust of the study is to determine the strength and weaknesses of Junior High Teachers of Science and Mathematics particularly of the use of different process skills and their English proficiency which they commonly used in teaching and provide them with a professional development programs. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods of research design to achieve purpose of the study, the 219 Junior High Teachers teaching Science and Mathematics, or both were the chosen teacher participants of the study from the 15 public schools in Schools Division of Lipa City. To gather relevant information, the strength and weaknesses of teachers were identified using an interview questions and focused group discussion. Both were administered through virtual platform. The data were analyzed, processed, consolidated, and analyzed to come up with the development of professional development program based on their identified needs. The developed professional development program had been evaluated using the CIPP Model with the different tools crafted and adapted from the National Educators Academy of the Philippines. One way to provide assistance to teachers is to listen to their voices through interview and focused group discussions. It is truly that their identified weaknesses must be addressed properly thorough the development and validation of professional development program that could help them enhanced their skill using different process skills and develop high proficiency level on using English as medium of instruction in teaching Science and Mathematics.

THE IMPACT OF STUDYING ENGLISH AS AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE ON FIRST-YEAR CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS IN BATANGAS STATE UNIVERSITY

Abstracts: The aim of this descriptive quantitative study was to assess the impact of studying English as an international language on first-year civil engineering students in Batangas State University. The data gathering instrument utilized was a questionnaire. The data analyzed were from surveying two hundred thirty-four (234) out of five hundred forty-five (545) first-year civil engineering students during the S.Y. 2021-2022. The researchers analyzed the students’ attitudes toward English as an international language and its impact on students in terms of communication skills, personal development, and cultural awareness. The result of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the attitude of the students towards learning English and the profile variables of the respondents. It also showed that there is a significant difference in the extent of studying English as an international language when grouped according to the profile variables of the respondents.

Abstracts: The purpose of this study is to determine the determinants and aspirations on the migration plans of selected graduating civil engineering students at Batangas State University. The data gathering instrument used were questionnaires that are distributed online. The data analyzed were from surveying a hundred and forty-seven (147) out of two hundred and thirty-two (232) graduating civil engineering students from A.Y. 2021-2022. The researchers analyzed the students’ factors and aspirations as they aspire to migrate after graduation for the pursuance of their career. The study revealed that there is no significant difference between the determinants and the profile variables of the respondents perhaps, there is a significant relationship between the students’ determinants and aspirations on their potential migration.

THE LEVEL OF SATISFACTION IN THE EXPERIENCES OF THE SELECTED OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS IN THEIR RECEIVING COUNTRY

Abstracts: This study focused on the level of satisfaction in the experiences of the selected Overseas Filipino Workers from any receiving country. This study employed descriptive method in research. Two hundred OFWs were chosen as respondents using purposive sampling technique. Data gathering instrument utilized was a survey questionnaire which was answered by OFW respondents regarding their experiences in their respective receiving countries. This study used statistical tools such as simple percentage, weighted mean, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Pearson-r. Demographic profile variables of the respondents were analyzed using simple percentage while weighted mean was used to compute the central tendency of each factor wherein some values contribute more than others. This study also utilized t-test in determining the significant difference between the level of satisfaction of male and female OFWs. ANOVA was used in this study to determine the significant difference in the level of satisfaction in terms of age, receiving country, and years spent in the receiving country. Pearson-r was utilized to determine the significant relationship between the expectations of OFWs and the level of satisfaction in their receiving country. The results of the study revealed that the majority of the respondents are female, 36 to 50 years old, from Italy, and have stayed for 1 to 5 years in the receiving country. Before the Overseas Filipino Workers migrated, they expected a better employment opportunity across borders. Most of the Overseas Filipino Workers are very satisfied with the security, environment, economic, and services in their receiving country while only satisfied with the social experiences. There is a significant difference in the level of satisfaction of the Overseas Filipino Workers when grouped according to the profile of the respondents. The significant difference is found in variable Age between 18 to 24 years old and 25 to 35 years old and there is a significant relationship between the expectations of the Overseas Filipino Workers and the level of satisfaction in their receiving country.

POST OPERATIVE PHYSIOTHERAPY REHABILITATION OF HOFFA’S FRACTURE: A CASE SERIES

Abstracts: Background: A coronal fracture of the distal femoral condyle, known as a HOFFA’S fracture, commonly occurs and is easy to misdiagnose. Surgical treatment and rehabilitation is primary method of treatment. So, this study involves left Hoffa’s lateral condylar fracture managed by open reduction internal fixation with C-C screw and rehabilitation Case presentation: We reported a 7 cases of 15-50 years patients who visited to our hospital with complaint of pain during knee bending, transfer activities and prolong standing. They presented with lateral and medial condylar HOFFA’S fracture and this cases is managed by C-C screw and Herbert screw fixation by means of ORIF. After surgery physiotherapy management was started after 1 day of surgery. No early complications, such as infection, and loss of reduction were noted after surgery. Outcome measure: VAS, GONIOMETRY, MMT, GIRTH(MEASURETAP) Conclusion: Our case study highlight the importance of early post op physiotherapy management after HOFFA’S fracture. And we reported that physiotherapy plays an important role in rehabilitation of patients with HOFFA’S fracture.

SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT OF NATIONAL GREENING PROGRAM TO FARMER BENEFICIARIES IN DAVAO OCCIDENTAL, PHILIPPINES

Abstracts: The degradation of forests is a worldwide phenomenon which have profound effect not only to the environment, but also other aspects like social and economic well-being of farmers. In the Philippines, the National Greening Program (NGP) has been implemented in 2011 and ended in 2016 but then expanded till 2018. This study was conducted to assess the social and economic impact of NGP to farmer-beneficiaries in Davao Occidental. Descriptive research design was employed and 979 farmer-beneficiaries were randomly selected and interviewed with the aid of a researcher made questionnaire. Results revealed that NGP have not significantly impacted the social well-being of the farmers, but rather on the economic well-being of the farmers as evident by the increased in income brought about by employment/job opportunities related to NGP activities and access to forest products and services. However, farmers noted evidence in the improvement of their social well-being in terms of cultural values and knowledge management. The implementation of NGP can be a way more successful if considerations on social impact to farmers will be integrated in the Program.

INTERCULTURAL EMPATHY OF FOREIGN NURSES ON PATIENTS’ SAFETY

Abstracts: This research identified the intercultural empathy of foreign nurses for patients' safety among selected nurses in Dhahran Al Janoub General Hospital in Abha, Saudi Arabia, and presented programs to improve patient safety using the descriptive-correlation method with the aid of questionnaires distributed among the thirty randomly selected Filipino, Indian, Sudanese and Saudi Arabian respondent nurses using English as the medium language. This study determined the intercultural empathy of foreign nurses for patients' safety wherein most of the respondent nurses belong to the age bracket 41 and above, are female-dominated, married, baccalaureate degree holders, and have five years and below in the service as nurses. The intercultural empathy of foreign nurses for patients' safety as perceived by the nurses is 4.48, described as "High." This result can be attributed to behavioral, emotional, relational, and cognitive factors. There are also no significant differences in the intercultural empathy of foreign nurses for patients' safety as perceived by nurses across their profile variables. There are, as well, no significant relationships between the intercultural empathy of foreign nurses on patients' safety as perceived by the nurses and their profile variables. Based on the salient findings, conclusions were drawn, and recommendations were made to propose intervention programs to mitigate clinical errors and improve the quality of healthcare given to patients considering the intercultural empathy of foreign nurses for patients' safety at all costs.
