Abstracts: The study was conducted to assess the implementation of Philippine Early Childhood Development Program on kindergarten pupils of New Society Central Elementary School as basis for a proposed teachers’ ECCP enhancement plan. It is important to note that due to the limited participants in this study, the results of this research may not necessarily be generalizable to all schools with kindergarten curriculum for this is only focused on kindergarten students of New Society Central Elementary School during school year 2020-2021. The selection of participants was done through universal sampling and all kindergarten pupils of New Society Central Elementary School during the school year 2020-2021 were onboarded as subjects of the study. Data-gathering permissions were secured from department head of the graduate school of RMMC, as well as from the school administrator where the study was conducted. This research utilized the assessment of ECCD of the respondents, specifically assessment 1 and assessment 2. Based on the result, it was found out that the implementation level of Philippine Early Childhood Education Development Program was generally high for all domains, namely: gross motor; fine motor; self-help; receptive language; expressive language; cognitive; and socio emotional. Thus, a proposed teachers’ ECCP enhancement plan was designed by the researcher based on the results of the study, which focused on three least-improved domains.

Authors: OKETCH MARGARET, DR. OKWEMBA EMILY, DR. OTSYULAH JOSEPH

Abstracts: Strategic decisions are vital in the performance of any organization. They help to chart a course based on long-term goals and vision hence, there is a need for managers to be profound in the making of strategic decisions to achieve positive results in their institutions. However, the organizational performance of VTCs institutions has been an ongoing trial in an atmosphere of resource shortage, lack of quality infrastructure to support technical training, poor governance leading to embezzling of funds, weak management resulting to poor strategic decision making thus lack of strategic direction. The focal purpose of this study was to establish influence of heuristic decision making on the organizational performance of VTCs in Vihiga County. of random choice decision making on organizational performance of VTCs in Vihiga County. The study was guided by subjective expected utility (SEU) theory, prospect theory, and satisficing theory. The study was guided by pragmatism and adopted mixed method research design where both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. The target population of the study was 120 respondents where simple random sampling was used to get a sample of 60 respondents. Primary data was collected through self-administered questionnaires measured over a 5-point Likert scale. Reliability of the research instruments was tested through Cronbach’s Alpha and Construct validity was assessed through factor analysis. Data was analyzed using descriptive analysis inform of mean and standard deviation. Diagnostic Tests was done to test the model by testing for normality, autocorrelation, multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity while inferential statistics used Correlation analysis, ANOVA and regression analysis. The results of multi- regression analysis showed that heuristic decision making had a positive association on organizational performance with a coefficient of r = 0.170 and p- value of 0.015which was less than 0.05. The study concluded that an improvement in heuristic decision making influences organizational performance of VTCs by increasing the student enrolment. Top managers in VTCs need to embrace these decision making strategies to improve organizational performance in their institutions.

Authors: ALHAJI MOHAMED HAMZA CONTEH, BRIMA GEBGE , SANPHA KALLON

Abstracts: The importance of the effect of weather to rice cultivation in the emerging nations is of vital insofar as the agricultural sub sector is involved. Currently, the association between weather and rice cultivation continues to create further attention in Sierra Leone agricultural growth. The increase in population and revenue in emerging nations carters for additional food request, although, the supply aspect is not enough to equalise the demand side. This research work assessed the effects of weather inputs on rice cultivation regarding planting area deviations in Sierra Leone. The authors employed weather time series data comprising sunshine, rainfall, minimum and maximum temperatures, as well as data from 1985 to 2021. To test for stationarity properties in the data, the Augment Dickey-Fuller (ADF) technique was used. Furthermore, all the series showed to unveil a long run association by Johansen Cointegration method at first levels I with the likelihood of taking the linear combination. The regression results shown that an increase in unit rainfall besides the usual moisture needed decrease the mean rice cultivation by 14.3 %. Though by stepwise regression method, other metrological parameters including sunshine, means of minimum and maximum temperature had lesser significance on rice cultivation. Predominantly, an increase in unit in the area planted was discovered to increase rice cultivation by 54.37 %.

USING MULTINOMIAL LOGISTIC REGRESSION MODEL (MLRM) TO ASSESS THE FACTORS INFLUENCING THE SELECTION OF FARMING BUSINESS BY CASSAVA AND RICE FARMERS IN BOMBALI DISTRICT, SIERRA LEONE.

Authors: ALHAJI MOHAMED HAMZA CONTEH, BRIMA GEBGE , SANPHA KALLON

Abstracts: This research assessed the factors influencing the selection of a business by cassava and rice farmers in Bombali district, Sierra Leone. The primary data were obtained by using a multi-stage sampling procedure. Well-structured questionnaire was administered to 150 randomly selected cassava and rice farmers to prompt pertinent facts from respondents in the selected study area. A Multinomial Logistic Regression Model (MLRM) was employed to assess the factors influencing the selection of business by cassava and rice farmers in the study area. The findings shown that majority (70.00%) of the farmers’ selected only rice farming business while as 20.00 % and 10.00 % of the farmers’ selected only cassava farming business and rice and cassava as mixed farming business respectively. Additionally, the study shown a yearly mean of 1.97 tons of combined rice and cassava output, as well as a farm size of 1.21 ha for each farmer, a clue that the research covered subsistence family owned farm sites. The respondents were youths, with elementary formal education. The Logistic regression model presented that farm size, output and revenue from the selected business positively and significantly influence a farmer’s preferred business. This suggests that the likelihood of selecting cassava or rice business increased with revenue netted from the business, output and farm size from selected business. The partial elasticities of output and revenue for rice and joint business were elastic, though other related factors along the sets equally classified were inelastic. This research work consequently, recommended that extension officials ought to intensify the awareness on various kinds, procedures and practices obtainable for cassava and rice farming to additionally advance their acceptance. Similarly, farm training programs on better management practices to increase cassava and rice output ought to be known to the cassava and rice cultivators.

OPTIMIZATION OF IMPERFECT MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS: INTERFERENCE ANALYSIS BETWEEN STOCHASTIC FLOW OF FAILURES AND PRODUCTION POLICY

Authors: GUY RICHARD KIBOUKA, JEAN BRICE MANDATSY MOUNGOMO

Abstracts: This article presents a problem of optimizing the optimal stochastic control policy of a manufacturing system operating in an uncertain environment. The manufacturing unit or machine can only produce one type of part at a time. The objective of the study is to develop an optimal joint production and maintenance planning strategy aimed at making the investment profitable (minimizing the total cost incurred) while satisfying a given demand. The manufacturing unit is subject to random breakdowns and repairs. The start-up time is negligible compared to the manufacturing time of a type of part and the average time between the arrival of requests (production flexibility). In addition, the cost of running is also negligible compared to the costs of inventorying, shortage and repair of the machine. A modeling approach based on stochastic control theory and an algorithm for numerical resolution of optimum conditions are presented. Finally, the study's contribution is to find optimal production and maintenance policies that are more improved than the Modified Hedging Corridor Policy (MHCP).
