Academic Text Reading Skills Of Senior High School Students Of Batangas City

Abstract
Philippine educational system has changed in line with globalization. Being the last Asian country to implement the K to 12 curriculum, Philippines has mandated to have additional two years in high school that will develop both academic and professional skills of the students. One of the skills that they must develop is their reading skill therefore the study aimed to assess the academic text reading skills of senior high school students in Batangas City. The study made use of descriptive research which involved quantitative and qualitative methods in gathering data. A validated researchers-made test-questionnaire was used to gather the data needed. The subjects of the study were 181 senior high school students in Batangas City. Convenience or accidental sampling, pearson r, ranking, stratified random sampling and weighted mean were used as statistical treatment and analysis of data. Results revealed that based on the test-questionnaire, senior high school students have poor reading performance in terms of academic text and they were experiencing several constraints in reading academic texts.
